Tamiya The Frog – An RC Legend

First introduced in 1983, the 2WD racing buggy Frog made a huge splash with its eye-catching design and highperformance running. The Frog now makes a comeback, updated for a new age, but with its basic structureessentially unchanged. Preserving its characteristic space frame, the oil dampers for trailing-arm type rearsuspension have been updated to diaphragm type. Drive the buggy that won the 1984 German Nationals – TheFrog.

About The Frog

Clear Body

The detailed clear body depicts the buggy bodies found in the 1980s. Made from durable polycarbonate, thisbody shell is very low profile and neatly covers the top of the chassis. The wing, also polycarbonate, helpsaid in downforce and rear traction. The driver figure and body are separate pieces allowing for a moredetailed finish. Pod lights and decals finish the body off with a realistic appearance.

Performance Chassis

The durable ABS frame and nylon suspension of The Frog, are lightweight and rugged for off-road performance.The battery is held in an ultra-low position to aid in stability over rough terrain and jumps. Advanced4-wheel independent suspension composed of front double wishbone type featuring in-board spring and durablesteel radius arm. The rear trailing arm type features horizontally mounted aluminum cylinder oil dampers foreffective shock absorption. A sealed differential gearbox ensures high speed cornering, while full gearboxball bearings and 3-step gear ratio secures maximum transmission efficiency.

Included Electronics

This chassis Kit includes both a torque tuned brushed motor and Hobbywing 1060 ESC. these components combineto deliver a performance enhanced on-road racing experience. The compact ESC boasts extreme performance,complemented by a built-in capacitor module for efficient power delivery. With exceptional current endurancecapability, easily configurable parameters using ESC jumpers, and automatic throttle range calibration foruser-friendly setup, the Quicrun 1060 stands out. Its impressive built-in BEC output capacity, built-incapacitor, and IP-67 waterproof rating further elevate its reliability, making it a top-tier choice forenthusiasts seeking optimal performance in their RC adventures. The RS-540 Torque-Tuned motor offers highertop speeds and increased acceleration.

Connector Information

When upgrading to a high current LiPo battery, it is recommended to also upgrade your battery connector. Werecommend using an XT60 or T-Style connector for this application. Please check out the video below to learnhow to solder on a T-Style connector.

Prior to the RC10 sweeping the nation in the mid 80’s, the Frog was the next step up from the Grasshopper and Hornet when the industry was still figuring things out. And today The Frog is still an interesting buggy, very unique, somehow performs better than it should. I just finished my kit yesterday and the build was pretty straight forward. Just a warning that screws and parts are scattered across several bags so take you time to match everything up and certainly buy a ball bearing kit as well-only the transmission bearings are included. I’m pleased with how this turned out. Unlike my original Frog that destroyed the hexagonal outdrives back in the 80;s. this new version is setup with dog bones. Very nice. Comes with the 540 motor and 3 gearing options during the build (Torque, High speed, and standard) along the with the proper 32p pinion gears to match. A Tamiya Torque or Sport tuned motor is a good match for this buggy and keeps the original look intact. Add a standard servo and radio and you are set for hours of fun which was the entire attraction to these buggies in the first place.
