Description
“I took this buggy to my local track where I’ve been racing for about 8 months, and laid down one of the best laps ever. This ready-to-run is actually ready to run. After proper break-in of the engine, even with a non-competition ‘pullstart’ powerplant, it’s plain to see this chassis is legit. Serpent does offer upgradeable parts that are a definite upgrade, but not needed… I definitely recommend this for anybody who just wants another buggy or is just getting into the sport and not ready to build a kit. This is for you…” – Estill – Verified Owner

Busted Nuts RC Verified Owner Thursday, Sep 22 2022 (about 3 years ago) Serpent SRX8 RTR 1/8 Nitro Buggy w/2.4GHz Radio & .21 Pull-Start Engine This is a step up from ANY RTR nitro buggy, it’s high end all around honestly, kind off between a race kit and a RTR package.
The engine is alright, it’s (based in my experience) a force .21 pro, nothing fancy but it has some power for sure!
Electronics are meh, but work.
This thing rocks out of the box, the suspension is kit quality, the driveline is basically set as a high end buggy. You name it, this is the best RTR option period! 8 customers found this review helpful. estill jones Verified Owner Sunday, Apr 3 2022 (about 3 years ago) Serpent SRX8 RTR 1/8 Nitro Buggy w/2.4GHz Radio & .21 Pull-Start Engine i took this buggy to my local track where i’ve been racing for about 8 months with my mp10, and laid down one of the best laps ever. this ready to run is actually ready to run. after proper breakin of engine, even with a non compitition ” pullstart” powerplant its plan to see this chassis is legit. serpent does offer upgradebale parts that are a definite upgrade, but not needed… i defently recomend this for anybody who just wants anothrr buggy or just getting into sport and not ready to build a kit, this is for you… 6 customers found this review helpful. I will replace the Transmitter and receiver, not a big deal . Love this buggy definitely recommend it to others 2 customers found this review helpful. Erich Pedersen Verified Owner Tuesday, Mar 12 2024 (about a year ago) Serpent SRX8 RTR 1/8 Nitro Buggy w/2.4GHz Radio & .21 Pull-Start Engine For what it is its overall a nice buggy, if i were to pick another one it would be the kyosho as parts for this car are getting scarce, the radio is close to something you would get with a drone you pick up at the has station . Engine fires up no problem every-time and runs perfect once tuned correctly . Main reason i went with this over kyosho is the screws on the kyosho are a bit outdated. I want to give it a three because of parts inventory but that has nothing to do with actual car . 1 customer found this review helpful. Joshua Voes Verified Owner Wednesday, Dec 27 2023 (about a year ago) Serpent SRX8 RTR 1/8 Nitro Buggy w/2.4GHz Radio & .21 Pull-Start Engine Bought 3 of these buggies for my boys. The cars are a nice quality for being RTR kits. The best part is the all the normal SRX8 Cobra Pro parts and option parts will work on this car. The electronics will most likely need to be upgraded if your goals is to hit the track. All the servos work just fine, but with 3 cars we noticed some variations in speed across the fleet. I would still get these kits for new racers. A solid 8/10 for an RTR kit! 1 customer found this review helpful. Santiago Acosta Correa Verified Owner Tuesday, Oct 3 2023 (about a year ago) Serpent SRX8 RTR 1/8 Nitro Buggy w/2.4GHz Radio & .21 Pull-Start Engine It’s really more than I expected, it’s my first nitro RC car and I’m delighted. Very happy with purchase. I have broke the engine in with no issues. This is my third serpent rtr and all are great. This is far the best rtr nitro buggy on the market. 1 customer found this review helpful. Caleb Gonzalez Verified Owner Tuesday, Apr 5 2022 (about 3 years ago) Serpent SRX8 RTR 1/8 Nitro Buggy w/2.4GHz Radio & .21 Pull-Start Engine I’m very happy with this serpent nitro buggy rtr. It’s perfect for someone who wants to learn and try nitro out on the track. I took it out to thunder alley and it handled well on the track I do recommend upgrading to the srx8 pro parts along the way 1 customer found this review helpful. Oliver Verified Owner Monday, Jul 28 2025 (2 months ago) Serpent SRX8 RTR 1/8 Nitro Buggy w/2.4GHz Radio & .21 Pull-Start Engine Not quite “RTR” but it’s one of your only considerable options. The glow plug was faulty out of the box so I couldn’t get the engine to start. After a few days the switch for the receiver broke. The carb needs lots of adjustment. Chassis may need alignment out of the box. If you don’t want to spend an additional $1000-$1500 on a buggy/truggy kit then this is fine but this is where manufacturers need to do a better job at filling the gap between “kit” and “RTR”. After all the the additional parts and trouble shooting I have thrown at this buggy I would have rather just built a kit – in other words the manufacturers need to do better. Matthew Schilling Thursday, Jun 5 2025 (4 months ago) Serpent SRX8 RTR 1/8 Nitro Buggy w/2.4GHz Radio & .21 Pull-Start Engine Great RTR to get into nitro. Engine is a little underpowered and electronics are somewhat slow but the car handles well. C Grayson Verified Owner Monday, May 19 2025 (4 months ago) Serpent SRX8 RTR 1/8 Nitro Buggy w/2.4GHz Radio & .21 Pull-Start Engine This is a great nitro buggy to start out with. That being said, there is a lot of misinformation about this car online right now. It should be clearly stated that this buggy is not actually an SRX8 like the pro version. It is actually like half s811 (Serpent’s older buggy) and half SRX8. The shocks are not the same as the kit, they are S811 shocks (known rear hopping issues), the diff is the newer SRX8 diff, some items such as the chassis and stock shock tower are unique to the SRX8 RTR. So please don’t buy this thinking you are getting an actual SRX8, you are only getting some of it.
Now all that aside, the engine runs great, the quality is good, the components are good. My only major complaint is the cheap radio, but even that is at least functional, and everyone replaces the radios anyway. I think the stock servos are decent and I have a number of Serpent RTR servos in diff applications and never had an issue with any of them. So even though this is actually half a S811, it is still a very good quality nitro buggy. I really have no complaints other than I unknowingly bought a buggy with last gen suspension and some other items. Paul Chapman Verified Owner Sunday, Nov 3 2024 (11 months ago) Serpent SRX8 RTR 1/8 Nitro Buggy w/2.4GHz Radio & .21 Pull-Start Engine Took a few minutes and few pulls on the first few starts. After break in and a few tanks it runs amazing. I figured an RTR wouldn’t be great but I was wrong it’s better than great. Rips in the back yard and screams at the track. Wish they had these 15years ago when I raced. I can’t tell you about the radio cause I swapped it to my Sanwa before I ever ran it. Best part Amain had it at my door fast. TOM JAMES Verified Owner Thursday, Mar 9 2023 (about 2 years ago) Serpent SRX8 RTR 1/8 Nitro Buggy w/2.4GHz Radio & .21 Pull-Start Engine Awesome value. Engine is strong and fast. Only upgrade needed is larger flywheel to use starter box.Servo’s strong as hell Eric Cruse Verified Owner Wednesday, Feb 1 2023 (about 2 years ago) Serpent SRX8 RTR 1/8 Nitro Buggy w/2.4GHz Radio & .21 Pull-Start Engine Awesome buggy rtr for the price. Easily upgraded.Runs great out of the box. Jon Verified Owner Thursday, Sep 1 2022 (about 3 years ago) Serpent SRX8 RTR 1/8 Nitro Buggy w/2.4GHz Radio & .21 Pull-Start Engine For starters, the glow plug was bad from the box, couldn’t even break it in because it would not stay running. Wouldn’t hold a tune at all. Absolutely no Info on what type of glow plug to use, no instructions for the motor at all either only reason it’s getting three stars if for lack of info, Once I changed the glow plug it ran amazing. Definitely change the servos and radio system if you wanna keep up at the local track.
Buggy us build tough that’s for sure. Hitting a huge double and slamming in to the back of the down jump and she kept on going, land nose first, yup, she cartwheels and kept going. Jay Publicover Verified Owner Wednesday, Nov 29 2023 (about a year ago) Serpent SRX8 RTR 1/8 Nitro Buggy w/2.4GHz Radio & .21 Pull-Start Engine It is a fantastic RTR buggy and has worked really well. The engine broke in with very little issue and the suspension is very good. I would recommend this buggy to anyone! 0 of 1 customers found this review helpful. Eric S. Verified Owner Wednesday, Jun 21 2023 (about 2 years ago) Serpent SRX8 RTR 1/8 Nitro Buggy w/2.4GHz Radio & .21 Pull-Start Engine Hands down the nicest RTR nitro buggy out right now.
The kyosho mp9 has a better transmitter.
But the Srx8 buggy itself is very nice.
Lrp needs to take notes and go back over the Rebel BX3.
Good job Serpent for paying attention to detail and providing a quality product! 0 of 2 customers found this review helpful. Jacob Rivera Verified Owner Tuesday, Mar 7 2023 (about 2 years ago) Serpent SRX8 RTR 1/8 Nitro Buggy w/2.4GHz Radio & .21 Pull-Start Engine Had the hardest time starting the buggy, I tried and tried with a preheated engine with no luck. I ran bones brew break in fuel, I eventually tried a new glow plug and it finally started. So Bad glow plug right away! Check everything screws, set screws anything metal on metal. I forgot 1 set screw on the throttle slide, because it’s not visible unless you take the motor off completely. So I had a runaway nitro, unfortunately it runs like crap so I was able to grab it right away lesson learned. Can’t use a starter box unless you have the low profile motor mounts which those are sold out across the 7 seas. Pull starter as well sold out! So many bad decisions on this buy unfortunately, hopefully I can get it running properly. Wish I would of built my own nitro kit for racing instead of the serpent xr8 rtr definitely not the way to go if your racing. Any pros I don’t think so I’ll have tons of money into the serpent before its as strong as a kit or as fast. Cons: tires, tread pattern doesn’t match one tire tread runs the wrong direction. Electronics are pretty dang awful, both of the servos failed right away. Servos made it through break in process but failed on the track right! Upgrade parts are very expensive and are not available like the low profile motor mount which allows you to use a starter box. Pull starter sold out! C Pins for the a arms need to be checked carefully every run.
Body was in tough shape!
Runs awful and very loud compared to any race kit version buggy. Would not buy again. Unfortunately! Needs spare parts 100% before you go racing doesn’t look like it’ll take a beating! Electronics need to be replaced 100% if your serious about racing then so does the engine you need a starter box much easier and more reliable than the pull starter. Do yourself a favor buy a kit version you’ll thank me later. 1 of 4 customers found this review helpful. View all reviews
