TRX-4 Sport Lifted Scale Rock Crawler
The Traxxas TRX-4 Sport 1/10 High Trail Edition RC Crawler with a Truck Body has been designed to offer scale performance and adventure. Thanks to its factory-installed Long Arm Lift Kit and oversized tires, the highly detailed truck body stands over an inch taller than the standard TRX-4 Sport chassis for legendary off-road capability and performance on the trail. To further the appearance, this truck uses the Traxxas Clipless Body Mounting for added scale realism!
The TRX-4 sport High Trail Edition is the perfect vehicle for the driver who wants it all; extreme all-terrain capability, stunning scale looks, and unmatched durability! This High Trail Edition TRX-4 Sport uses portal axles, 110mm threaded shocks, oversized Canyon Trail tires mounted to 2.2″ wheels and a lift kit giving you extreme ground clearance and a boost in capability and performance to conquer the toughest terrains!
Features:
- Molded Scale Detail:The Body comes with authentic-looking expedition roof rack, snorkel, side mirrors, traction boards, fire extinguisher, jack, and fuel canisters.
- Clip-less Body Mounting System:Traditional posts and body clips are gone, and instead an integrated quick-release system secures the body invisibly. The hidden mechanism holds tight on the trail yet releases in just seconds to access the chassis.
- Trail-tuned XL-5 HV Waterproof Electronic Speed Control:HV electronic speed control brings 3s LiPo capability for strong efficient running. The powerful 21T Titan motor provides torque for hauling heavy loads and climbing steep grades.
- Factory-Installed Long Arm Lift Kit:The lift kit not only gives you an extra inch of ground clearance but also maintains the TRX-4’s suspension geometry.
- Standard 312mm Wheelbase:The 312mm wheelbase makes the truck compatible with many after market scale and performance parts.
- The Power of Portals:The portal axles work in tandem with the Lift Kit to lift the truck for huge center ground clearance. The portal axles’ internal gear reduction virtually eliminates torque twist, keeping the truck straight and on course.
- Extended Aluminum GTS Shocks:These shocks are 20mm longer than the standard GTS shocks. The threaded shock bodies are silver-anodized to deliver silky-smooth dampening.
- Oversize Wheels and Tires:The aggressive Canyon Trail tires feature large lugs for increased grip with foam inserts for realistic trail performance. Slotted chrome Mag wheels come with replica locking hubs to conceal the wheel nuts.
- Sealed Ball Bearings:Reliable sealed ball bearings are used throughout the chassis for long-lasting performance.

Everything about it—from the detailed body to the trail performance—is impressive. The lifted stance and high clearance make it super capable off-road, but I’ve noticed that the added height can increase body roll and occasionally cause the truck to tumble on steeper, rocky hills. I’m confident the handling will improve once I add some weight down low, especially in the wheels or skid plate.
My only real gripe is the stock wheels. While they get the job done, they give the truck a bit of a toy-like appearance. I plan to swap them out for beadlock wheels to enhance the look and functionality.
Overall, it’s an awesome truck out of the box, and with just a few simple upgrades, it’ll be a beast on the trail. 1 customer found this review helpful. RC Muddler Saturday, Jul 19 2025 (2 months ago) Traxxas TRX-4 Sport High Trail Edition 1/10 Scale Trail Rock Crawler (Blue) I don’t hate Traxxas, nor am I a fanboy, although I feel with quite a few of their models, you don’t get a lot for what you pay for, and they are the most over hyped brand on Youtube. However, despite feeling that way, TRX-4s are fantastic. I put together a sport kit I had sitting around for years, and the build quality and the quality of the axles, links, shocks, etc. are a step up over most other brands. So I decided to get another TRX-4 sport, the blue high trail version, with the idea of converting it to 1.9 inch wheels and putting the TRX-4 camper body on it. I thought in the pictures, the high trail sport looked a little ridiculous, but I would also use the 2.2 wheels on another project. Well, the blue TRX-4 Sport High Trail looks MUCH better in person. The pictures don’t capture the actual color, a metallic blue, which actually looks great and it doesn’t look so clownish with the lift and large tires in person. Plus, I ran the shock collars all the way up to help bring the body down and I will probably try some softer springs. The truck looks so good, I think I will just keep it the way it is with 2.2 wheels. Yes, the truck will roll over more easily with the body accessories and the lift, but I plan getting a few brass items to help stay wheel side down. Anyway, GREAT truck and for the price of $299 an unbelievable value. Nice job Traxxas.
Addendum: I did the pen spring mod front and back, raised the damper collars up to the lower the truck, removed the shock travel limiter spacers, installed 100g outer portal covers and 50g rear portal weights, mounted the Canyon Trail tires on 2.2 RC4WD Mickey Thompson wheels, and used Treal +3mm wheel hexes. This truck is shockingly capable in my opinion, obviously it will never climb as well as an H10 Optic or some such truck, but it climbs well and it is so much fun to monster truck over obstacles that any 1.9 crawler would get high centered on. It is a completely different driving experience. I do want to point out that I thought the whole High Trail line was rather ridiculous, as I stated above, the only reason I bought the high trail version of the sport was because it was cheaper than the 1.9 sport and I wanted to use the 2.2 wheels on a buggy. After seeing and driving this truck, I am very happy to say I am glad I got one and I HIGHLY recommend it. Again, a different driving experience than a 1.9 crawler. The servo is weak and I might just replace it before it burns out in the middle of a run, but the Titan 21 turn motor has plenty of torque and speed.
One last thing, I lowered the front battery mount by chopping the battery plate where it would hit the servo and removed the spacers. Even so, having the battery in the front was a mistake, the truck is very unpredictable and would suddenly flip over due to the high center of gravity. I then chopped the sides of the regular battery tray to lay a 2200mAh battery as low as possible and secured it with a strap. This gets the battery lower than in the regular tray and helps out more than I would have thought and is free. View all reviews
