Bernard Coates Verified Owner Monday, Aug 4 2025 (8 weeks ago) Custom Works Outlaw 5 1/10 Dirt Oval Sprint Car Kit I’m rating this a 2, not because it’s an inferior car, because it breaks easily, or is a design that just doesn’t work. It is well designed and drives beautifully. The problem with it lies in quality control. I ran into more issues with parts for this build than any kit I’ve built in my 40 years of building and racing rc cars. This had wrong screws and missing screws, no diff balls at all in the kit, and a thrust bearing assembly that either had thrust washers drilled too small or a metric screw too large to fit through the thrust washers. And I’m only halfway through the build. Now I fully expect a problem with almost everything remaining to build. Very disappointing!! Scott Dyche Saturday, Nov 25 2023 (about a year ago) Custom Works Outlaw 5 1/10 Dirt Oval Sprint Car Kit Avoid this model at all cost! Brand new kit, missing parts. A mish-mash of SAE and metric hardware. A rear ballstud mounting that makes no sense coupled with a rear shock tower with loads of ball stud options that are completely useless since the rear shock tower is mounted about an inch behind where they would be useful. Overall this is the worst build I’ve done in 14 years in this hobby. The plastics, ball cups and steering system are totally vintage (40+ year old technology). For the price being asked I expected updated hardware and modern technology. Not pieces carried over from ancient models. If this is typical Custom Works quality, I’m shocked they’re still in business., unless they’re just focusing on fleecing uninformed racers. 4 of 10 customers found this review helpful.
