On this G2 I don’t find the car mode to be anything special, so what seems to be the big selling point is moot for me. Basically adds on-the-fly motor rotation swap and drag brake adjustment. But I wasn’t really interested in that anyway. The big difference for me is that the G2 has bolt holes for a 25mm fan to mount to it. HOOOOOOOO dawgy I love me a nice fan mount. Otherwise it seems the same as a 1080. Very smooth low end control for a brushed motor. I’m testing this with the RTR Vanquish motor, it was a big improvement from the 1060 it came with.
If you already have a hobbywing program card, I’d say might as well get this G2 version for the fan mount and the updates they say are in this one that helps it run more efficiently (this doesn’t come with a program card). If you don’t have the card, I’d get the OG 1080 that comes with. The fan is nice if you run in a really hot area, but doesn’t seem necessary in mild weather. And you can always just zip tie a fan to the 1080 heat sink if you need to. 6 customers found this review helpful. If you are using a brushed motor in your crawler, this is the ESC you should be using. Easy to program, unmatched control, Strong BEC that goes up to 8.4v. 2 customers found this review helpful. RC Muddler Wednesday, Jul 30 2025 (9 weeks ago) Hobbywing QuicRun Waterproof 1080 G2 Brushed Crawling ESC (2-3S) Fantastic brushed ESC, well worth the money. I changed several settings, set the drag brake to 90%, eased off on the drag brake application (apparently the drag brake is applied more slowly when letting off the throttle), and changed to freewheel mode (not sure what that is honestly, but it is the recommended setting for crawlers), and set the servo to 7.4 volts. Changing the first three settings I mentioned, really made the crawler easier to drive, I didn’t think it would matter, but it made a difference. The main difference is that the crawler (TRX-4 Sport) doesn’t slam to a stop, I didn’t realize how much of a difference that would make in staying smooth and not loosing control, especially on down hills. Now the truck will roll real slow down hill and comes to a quick but much more gradual stop instead of slamming on the brakes. All in all a great ESC. Now I want to get more 1080s for my other crawlers. Also, make sure to get the programing card to take full advantage of the 1080 Features. Phil Idell Verified Owner Saturday, Mar 1 2025 (7 months ago) Hobbywing QuicRun Waterproof 1080 G2 Brushed Crawling ESC (2-3S) I have several of the v1 1080s, and the v2 is even better….So Far. I hooked one up to use normally in a redcat marksman. It does great. The 2nd one is picked up, I went ahead and hooked up the yellow and white wires. The white is like a simulation mode or something and the yellow is radio knob drag brake adjustments.I put this on my cen f450 for towing. The simulation mode driving is very different. It is forward/brake or Reverse/brake, toggled from a 3 way switch. It is like using an automatic transmission in a real car. Drive goes forward, shift to reverse to back up. This is really messing me up, but kind of fun. You do not have to use this function, but it is there if you want it. Charles Bigbie Verified Owner Saturday, Aug 24 2024 (about a year ago) Hobbywing QuicRun Waterproof 1080 G2 Brushed Crawling ESC (2-3S) Great esc. not just for crawling. this will work great in any 540 or 550 brushed setup. (check motor turn limit). I have ran 15 turn at 3s with no problems. Unfortunately, I had trouble with mine glitching from the get go. I tried everything to get it to work correctly. Luckily, as always A main support was able to provide top notch service as always to keep a customer happy. Thank you A main for having the best service and staff. 1 of 2 customers found this review helpful.
